Baladin Xyauyù Fumé — Smoky, Deep, and Not What You Expect from Beer
This one is for a very specific kind of drinker.
If you like smoke, depth, and slow sipping, this hits. If you're expecting a crisp beer, this is not that.
Baladin Xyauyù Fumé is now at Juraku.
What is Xyauyù Fumé?
Xyauyù Fumé is an Italian craft beer from Baladin, built in the same style as the Kioke, but with a strong smoky profile. Like the Kioke: no carbonation, oxidative aging, full-bodied and meant for sipping. But here, smoke is the main character.
Why We Brought It In
This one is personal. Before Juraku, I was deep into peated whisky, Laphroaig, especially. That heavy, smoky, almost medicinal profile isn't for everyone, but if you're into it, nothing else hits the same.
Xyauyù Fumé brings that same kind of energy, just in a completely different format.
What It Drinks Like
This is not a "beer" experience. Think closer to peated whisky, smoky fortified wine, something you sip slowly and think about. It sits in that same space as Kioke, but leans hard into smoke instead of cedar.
Flavor Profile
Aroma: Smoke, toasted malt, dark sugar
Taste: Rich, slightly sweet, layered with smoke and depth
Finish: Long, warm, lingering smokiness
It's bold, but controlled.
How to Drink It
Take your time, slightly chilled or cellar temp, small pours, let it sit and open. This is not something you rush through.
Who This Is For
Peated whisky drinkers, people who like bold, smoky flavors, anyone looking for something completely different. If you like Laphroaig, this is worth trying.
Pair It With
Skirt steak yakitori, anything grilled or charred, rich savory dishes. Smoke on smoke works here.
Try It at Juraku
Available now at Izakaya Juraku, Lower East Side. If you're into smoke, this one's for you.
