Akkeshi Taisetsu: The Essence of Hokkaido's Winter in a Glass

We're always looking for whiskies that capture the heart and soul of Japan's diverse regions, and Akkeshi Taisetsu, "Great Snowfall", is a rare one. It comes from Akkeshi Distillery on Hokkaido's rugged northern coast, and it tastes like winter: pure and intense.

About Akkeshi Distillery

Founded in 2016 in Akkeshi Town, Hokkaido, the distillery leans on the region's cool climate, coastal fog, and pristine water. Drawing on Islay whisky methods, they use peated malt and age in a range of casks, including mizunara oak, for layered complexity.

The 24 Sekki Series: Taisetsu

Taisetsu belongs to Akkeshi's "24 Sekki" series, inspired by the traditional East Asian seasonal calendar. This release marks the deep of winter, aiming for quiet strength: crisp, contemplative, and profound.

Flavor Profile

  • Nose: Soft peat smoke, vanilla, sea salt, candied citrus, white flowers
  • Palate: Honey, roasted chestnut, lemon peel, gentle layered spice
  • Finish: Long and warming, with oak, salt air, and a lingering umami note

How We Serve It

Neat, or with a single ice sphere. It pairs beautifully with grilled fish, smoked meats, and umami-rich dishes like miso eggplant or soy-braised pork belly.
