Join us for a magical day of stargazing, wishes, and Japanese summer traditions at Izakaya Juraku on Monday, July 7th from 1 PM to 9 PM, as we celebrate Tanabata, the Japanese Star Festival, in collaboration with TEN TEN NYC.

What is Tanabata?

Tanabata, or the Star Festival, is one of Japan’s most beloved seasonal celebrations. It’s inspired by the romantic legend of Orihime (the weaving princess) and Hikoboshi (the cowherd), two lovers represented by the stars Vega and Altair, who are separated by the Milky Way and only allowed to meet once a year on the night of July 7th.

In Japan, Tanabata is celebrated by writing wishes on colorful strips of paper called tanzaku and hanging them on bamboo branches. Festivals often include decorations, yukata (summer kimono), traditional sweets, and community celebration.
